IDSA Experts Disseminate Credible, Reliable Information Through Media
While the country adapts to the “new normal” as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to spread, IDSA and its spokespersons continue to stand at the ready to educate both clinicians and the public through media interviews.
In a recent NPR article, IDSA spokesperson Rajesh Gandhi, M.D., FIDSA, speaks about the use of the experimental drug, Remdesivir against COVID-19 and its use in a recent, nationwide NIH clinical trial. Gandhi said he was pleased by how quickly his hospital started on its part of the trial, telling NPR, "We need answers sooner rather than later. We got the drug on the weekend and gave it to the first patient the very next day.”
In Forbes’ “How To Protect Yourself From Coronavirus If You Work An Essential Job,” IDSA spokespersons, Rachel Bender Ignacio, M.D., and Gregory Poland, M.D., FIDSA, offered advice on how essential workers can protect themselves amid the growing pandemic.
“There are many ways employers and employees can work together to make their space safer. People can put a sign on the front of their restaurant or establishment asking customers to not enter if they’re symptomatic or to maintain six feet of distance from the counter when ordering,” said Ignacio.
When asked how to keep the virus away, Poland discussed “contextually appropriate layers of protection.” “You don’t want to turn everyone into a germaphobe but being a germaphobe during this is wisdom and an appropriate layer of protection,” he said.
