Take Action to Fully Fund ID/HIV Programs in FY 2020
The fiscal year 2020 federal appropriations process is underway as the House Appropriations Committee holds hearings and accepts funding requests to develop its funding bills. The Labor-HHS subcommittee, which funds most public health and biomedical research programs, may consider its funding bill in early May, so now is an important time to contact members of Congress to urge funding for ID and HIV programs.
HIVMA and the broader HIV community are requesting that Congress provides new funding for the “Ending the HIV Epidemic” Initiative, in addition to increased funding to strengthen our public health system and ability to respond to the growing opioids, viral hepatitis and STD syndemics. Take two minutes to take action in the IDSA/HIVMA action center. Then share this important message via social media and encourage others to take action by clicking the icons under the headline in the action center – use the hashtags #EndHIVEpidemic and #FightforHIVFunding.
HIVMA and IDSA each submitted written testimony to the subcommittee with our FY 2020 funding requests. In addition, members of the House and the Senate have sent letters to their respective Labor-HHS subcommittees in support of robust funding for federal programs to combat antimicrobial resistance (House letter and Senate letter) and in support of increasing funding for HIV and related public health programs (House Letter and Senate letter).
