Science Speaks
March 24 marked World TB Day and 137 years since the discovery of the bacterium causing tuberculosis. In the days leading up to this year’s commemorative day, the IDSA/HIVMA global Science Speaks blog reported on:
- Global and domestic TB data showing gains against the disease, but inadequate progress to meet goals;
- Finalized guidance from the World Health Organization, recommending ending the use of injected drugs in long-term treatment for multidrug-resistant tuberculosis;
- Results from the STREAM trial of a shortened MDR-TB regimen;
- And a CUGH TB presentation on needs to equip private sector practitioners.
