Take Action to Support Loan Repayment for Public Health
IDSA is successfully advancing a proposal in Congress to provide the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention new authority to offer loan repayment to individuals serving in the Epidemic Intelligence Service, an on-the-job training program in applied epidemiology that grooms future public health leaders. Many EIS officers are ID physicians who are crucial in responses to outbreaks and other public health emergencies. Unfortunately, in recent years, CDC has struggled to recruit physicians to EIS as significant medical student debt drives more physicians to more lucrative opportunities.
