Ebola in the DRC: What's Different with This Outbreak and What Can be Done?

One year after recognition of the 10th Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo that has since been declared a Public Health Emergency of International Concern, IDSA physician members who cared for patients on the ground in the 2014 West Africa Ebola outbreak provide updates and expert analysis on the ongoing crisis in the DRC in this podcast.

Drs. Krutika Kuppalli of Stanford University, Daniel Lucey of Georgetown University and James Lawler of the University of Nebraska discuss the latest developments in efforts to control the outbreak, including exciting results from a randomized clinical trial investigating Ebola therapeutics. They discuss why this Ebola outbreak is different from other outbreaks, gaps in the response, challenges in controlling the spread of the virus, and ways the international community can mobilize to help end the crisis that has already claimed over 1,900 lives.
