Take Action on LGBTQ Protections Rollback

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services is proposing to remove from its program requirements non-discrimination protections based on sexual orientation and gender identity that the Obama Administration implemented through regulation in 2016. The proposed rule would allow agencies receiving taxpayer grant funding from HHS to discriminate in providing services to program participants based on sexual orientation and gender identity, affecting individuals eligible for a broad range of services from HIV programs to foster care and senior care.

By contributing to LGBTQ-related stigma and threatening access to health care services for people at risk and living with HIV, the proposed rule would be a setback for the administration’s End the HIV Epidemic initiative. The proposed rule is open for comment until Dec. 19, 11:59 p.m. EST.
