Share Your Comments on USPSTF PrEP Recommendation
The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF), the independent panel of health experts that makes evidence-based recommendations on clinical preventive services, issued a draft recommendation for pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) for HIV prevention, giving it an “A” grade. For a summary of the implications for this important recommendation, please see the HIVMA news release.
Notably, under the Affordable Care Act, preventive services given a grade of “A” or “B” by the USPSTF must be covered without cost sharing, so we believe that this recommendation could significantly improve access to PrEP, particularly for those with health insurance coverage.
This draft recommendation has a public comment opportunity through Dec. 26 and we encourage ID/HIV providers to submit comments through the online portal. Please contact HIVMA senior policy manager George Fistonich with questions or suggestions.
