President’s Budget Increases HIV Support, But Cuts Vital Domestic and Global Public Health Programs

President Trump’s budget proposal for 2021 proposes important investments in administration priorities that include the Ending the HIV Epidemic initiative, but also proposes spending cuts that would cause major setbacks to health, public health and biomedical research in the U.S. and around the globe. These recommendations include a 10% cut for the Department of Health and Human Services, including a 9% cut to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and a 7% cut to National Institutes of Health. The proposal would deal staggering cuts to global health programs. Details of the proposal are included in IDSA’s and HIVMA’s releases.
