U.S. Customs and Border Protection Fails to Deliver on Vaccination Programs
HIVMA and IDSA continue to push Trump administration officials to provide vaccinations against potentially life-threatening illnesses, including influenza, to individuals in U.S. Customs and Border Protection detention facilities. Children, older adults, pregnant women and persons with chronic medical conditions face a significant health risk without appropriate prevention protocols for influenza. Withholding vaccinations against influenza from migrants is a violation of the most basic principles of public health and human rights.
IDSA and HIVMA, along with organizations representing health care professionals and public health officials, sent this letter, urging the implementation of immunizations and other public health measures, to U.S. Health Secretary Alex M. Azar and U.S. Department of Homeland Security Acting Secretary Chad Wolf.
