IDSA Holds 31st Annual Infectious Diseases Clinical Fellows Meeting
The IDSA Clinical Fellows Meeting for Infectious Diseases, held Jan. 16-18 in Naples, Florida, attracted nearly 100 fellows representing 95 infectious diseases training programs. The meeting, in its 31st year, is designed specifically for fellows who are interested in pursuing a career in the clinical practice of infectious diseases.
The two-and-a-half-day meeting provided fellows with exposure to the clinical practice of infectious diseases as a career track and covered many issues related to clinical practice that are not often addressed during their fellowship training. Fellows learned about various clinical practice opportunities including those in telehealth, post-acute care and public health. The fellows also attended discussions on how to interview for a job and successfully negotiate contracts and learned about financial planning for medical professionals. In addition to didactic sessions, the fellows had opportunities to informally meet with practicing ID physicians to discuss career tracks, network and obtain valuable career advice from seasoned professionals.
The meeting is sponsored by IDSA with the planning and speaker list developed by the Clinical Fellows Meeting Planning Work Group. Members of the Clinical Affairs Committee attended the meeting as either speakers or as faculty who then interact with the fellows during the event. This year, IDSA is thankful to Merck and Co., Inc. for their sponsorship which helped offset the costs of the meeting.
