CMS Releases MIPS Payment Adjustment Fact Sheet

Proposed updates to the Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) for 2019 are right around the corner as the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) continues to push out information on the 2017 MIPS performance period. CMS recently released a 2019 MIPS Payment Adjustment Fact Sheet which discusses how CMS prepares and assigns final scores for MIPS eligible clinicians based on their 2017 performance.

Recall that MIPS payment adjustments lag two years behind the MIPS performance period; therefore, providers do not see adjustments to their Medicare payments, either positive or negative, for two years after a performance period. The recently released Fact Sheet provides valuable information and real-world examples of how MIPS adjustments are applied to provider payments.
