Evaluation and Management CPT® Codes Update

IDSA members and staff attended a recent meeting of the American Medical Association’s Relative Value Scale Update Committee (RUC) to ensure that concerns of the infectious diseases community are considered as relative work values are assigned to revised CPT® codes.

Included in the discussion were the recently revised evaluation and management (E/M) CPT® codes that are used to report office/outpatient visits for new and established patients.  IDSA has a voting seat on the RUC Panel as well as advisors that assist in the process. The relative work values will not be known to the public until the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services publishes its proposed Medicare Physician Fee Schedule for 2020, often published in July.
