Congressional Funding Agreement Supports ID and HIV Programs

The House and Senate have announced an agreement on a final fiscal year 2019 Labor, Health and Human Services and Department of Defense appropriations bill. The Senate-passed measure also included a Continuing Resolution to keep the entire federal government open through December 7. The House is expected to vote on the funding measure this week and send it to President Trump for his signature.

The agreement rejects cuts proposed in the Administration’s FY2019 budget, and instead provides increases or level funding for many ID and HIV priorities, as outlined in this funding chart and in IDSA’s and HIVMA’s press release. IDSA and HIVMA members have logged a record number of in-person meetings, Congressional site visits, phone calls and emails this year urging Congressional members to support federal funding for ID and HIV programs -- and it had an impact. 

As the appropriations process moves forward, IDSA and HIVMA will continue to keep up the pressure on Congress to complete all FY2019 funding bills, including the State and Foreign Operations bill that includes global ID and HIV resources at the State Department and the US Agency for International Development.
