As the Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH) is a large tertiary-care, multi-disciplinary, referral center, in addition to seeing complex general ID infections, fellows should expect to see a variety of endemic infections such as malaria, dengue, and enteric fever as well as infections due to resistant (predominant gram negative) pathogens. Moreover, ID fellows will be involved in the care of a large variety of extrapulonary TB, which form the bulk of the patients presenting to the ID clinics. However if more exposure to TB management is required, arrangements can be made to also rotate at a large MDR-TB treatment center which provided DOTS-plus therapy. Finally while rotating at the AKUH, fellows will be expected to be involved in the hospital epidemiology, infections control and antibiotic stewardship activities.
