Michael S. Ascher, M.D., FACP, FIDSA is the retired former chief of the Viral and Rickettsial Disease Laboratory, California Department of Public Health. After September 11, 2001, he served at the Department of Health and Human Services, the Department of Homeland Security, the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, and the University of California, Davis.
